Dirk Vertigan on Prayer in Tangipahoa Parish Schools - Published in the Baton Rouge Advocate

Preface:
On 3/26/2001 I came across an article on the The Advocate (Baton Rouge) website. Apparently, one Sunday, a group of believers decided that it wasn't enough to pray at each other in the privacy or their church, so they thought they would go out and pray at everyone else. The article had a photo of a bunch of people marching around a school, praying, in Loranger, Tangipahoa parish. In response to my letter I actually received letters from two of the participants, and it gave me a real insight into how extremely weird some people are.

My Letter:
I was appalled to see the article (3/26) about church groups marching around Tangipahoa schools engaged in a bizarre satanic ritual, namely prayer. How could people be so sadistically depraved that they would force their religious views on innocent children? Religious activity should only be performed in private and amongst consenting adults. Public prayer is treason and school prayer is child abuse. A school should be a haven of safety, and children need to be protected from drug dealers, christian evangelists and pedophiles.
